About
Project Objective
FISSIONARY is a digital awareness project designed to explore and highlight the essential role of women in the history of science, emphasizing issues of recognition and invisibilization.
The site mainly aims to:
- Repair historical memory by restoring the contributions of women scientists.
- Popularize a major scientific concept (nuclear fission) through an emblematic figure.
- Denounce the bias of the Matilda Effect, which has prevented many pioneers from receiving credit for their discoveries.
The Focus: Lise Meitner and the Nuclear Era
At the heart of our site is the story of Austrian physicist Lise Meitner (1878–1968), the theorist of nuclear fission. Her journey perfectly illustrates the double bind she suffered: forced exile due to Nazism and exclusion from the Nobel Prize, despite her fundamental contribution to one of the most important discoveries of the 20th century.
Realization and Educational Framework
This project was completed in 2025 as part of an educational exercise at the MMI department in Montbéliard.
